Stretching along the eastern side of the mighty Rocky Mountains, the city of Denver embraces its old Western charm of yesteryear and beckons adventure travellers and beer enthusiasts from all corners of the world.
With more than 300-days of sunshine per year, Denver combines the outdoors and arts in attractions and museums that line the leafy city streets and outer regions. And the best part? Many of these are completely free.
Engrained in my childhood memories are countless magical scenes and colourful Disney characters, bought to life every Saturday morning in our family living room and on the big screen. What child hasn’t dreamt of hugging Mickey Mouse on a visit to the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’.

“This is a must read!” a friend of mine exclaimed with excitement “but be warned, you’ll be hooked from the start!” Snickering under my breath I studied the front cover and wondered what this Tales of the City was all about. I mean we’ve all heard the claim before – the one that will supposedly rock our world, one that we just won’t be able to put down. Well, as it turns out, he was right.
Los Angeles is a great destination in itself, but what about those times when you’re just flying through? Lengthy connection times at Los Angeles airport (LAX) are usually part of the travel equation, especially when making your way to/from Australia.
You may want to consider a stop-over at one of the many LA airport area hotels which can be a restful solution to what might otherwise be a very long and taxing itinerary. If time is of the essence and an overnight stay isn’t possible, then consider a day room with a later flight connection.
